According to the latest education “report card,” academic achievement is stagnant. It’s actually worse than that. Children in public schools in Oklahoma – and more specifically in the Tulsa School District – are not learning as they should.
Why?
In the past two years, Oklahoma voters have elected so-called “pro-education” legislators who have pushed for higher teacher salaries and more funding for public education. The rallying cry was that schools were “underfunded” and that Oklahoma couldn’t catch up with surrounding states without throwing more cash at education.
Oklahoma has hired hundreds more certified teachers to replace temporary replacements and the effect is minimal.
Yet more than 50 TPS schools got a D or an F in the second year of the revamped grading system. That’s a system that was engineered to put schools in a better light and to highlight better academic achievement.
The problem runs deeper than just funding and no amount of funding will solve the problem.
The roots of the problem are secularism, humanism and political correctness. Christianity has effectively been replaced in public schools with a narrow-minded devotion to evolution. Prayer is outlawed. Christian teachers are not allowed to share their faith with students while agnostics and atheists freely indoctrinate impressionable children with their godless worldview. The Homosexual Agenda is being advanced while Islam is being promoted. Science is worshiped and considered the ultimate answer in life. Depression is a growing problem and drug abuse is serious.
Students are taught reliance on government through free lunches for everyone (poor and affluent).
Don’t expect this to improve under our current system. Public education needs reform and that should be the goal of the upcoming legislative session.
