Senate Bill 1552 by Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, and Rep. David Brumbaugh, R-Broken Arrow, would strip the medical license away from any doctor who performs an abortion.
It has already been passed by the House (59-9) and Senate (40-7) and awaits a conference committee report for final passage.
Dahm said the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution delegates powers to states that are not spelled out in the Constitution. One of those powers is the ability to control licensing of doctors.
This is believed to be the first time that a pro-life state has taken this approach to eliminate legalized abortions.
If the final version passes and is signed by Gov. Mary Fallin, a legal challenge will follow.
“The God-hating ACLU or some other godless, family hating organization are sure to challenge every pro-life bill in court,” said Pastor Paul Blair of Edmond, a proponent of SB1552. “Liberty Counsel in Orlando has agreed to donate their services to work with our Attorney General’s office in defending this groundbreaking approach to stopping abortion in our state. This strategy has never been thought of before, but is absolutely correct according to the Constitution.”
