Brumbaugh’s bill passed

Rep. David Brumbaugh’s House colleagues unanimously passed a Senate bill he sponsored before his death April 14.

Senate Bill 191, by Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, expedites simple Open Records requests. Rep. Jason Murphey, R-Guthrie, presented the bill and said it was typical of the policies Brumbaugh pursued.

“It is an honor to present this bill for him. We have been really good allies, especially on efficiency and transparency,” Murphey said. “These were things that were very important to him.”

The bill addresses complaints that some areas of state government are slow to process Open Records requests, and allow complex requests to stop simple ones. It passed 91-0 and goes back to the Senate.
