Charles Biggs and Brandon Biggs are top pickers
In the closest race ever, an uncle and nephew tied for the best football picks in the Tulsa Beacon in 2013.
Beacon Editor Charles Biggs tied his nephew, Brandon Biggs, with a record of 138-61 – nearly 70 percent. In the last picks of the year, Brandon surged into the tie by picking 20 of 29 bowl games correctly. Charles was second in the bowl picks with 19 of 29.
Bill Biggs, brother of Charles and uncle of Brandon, led for much of the season. He was one game away from a three-way tie (137-62) but he hit only 15 of 29 bowl picks to fade in the stretch.
Jon Biggs, brother to Bill and Charles and father of Brandon, was only two games away from a three-way tie for the lead. Jon finished at 136-63 with 18 of 29 bowls picked correctly.
Sports writer Jeff Brucculeri, the only picker from outside the Biggs Clan, was only four games off the pace in the season at 134-65. He picked 20 of 29 bowl games correctly.
Charles and Brandon have been top pickers previously. Charles, who correctly picked Oklahoma’s stunning win over Alabama and the Sooners’ upset of Oklahoma State, picked OSU in the Cotton Bowl while Brandon correctly picked Missouri and that game proved to be the deciding factor.
“As a reward for his expert picks, the Beacon is going to take Brandon out to lunch,” said Charles Biggs. “Maybe Bill, Jon and Jeff might want to think about picking the Sooners when they are underdogs more often in 2014.”
