POINT LOOKOUT, Missouri —College of the Ozarks has interest in acquiring Old Matt’s Cabin, the historic site in Taney County around which the live drama, The Shepherd of the Hills, was performed for 57 years. A bank has foreclosed on the property and now owns it.
“The College of the Ozarks is interested in maintaining an important window on the past,” said College of the Ozarks President Jerry C. Davis. “We would be interested in acquiring Old Matt’s Cabin as well as the rights to the The Shepherd of the Hills drama. The college has the stability and resources to help maintain the cultural heritage of the area, and we think it should be preserved.”
Final performances of the drama took place in 2016. The production was based on the book, The Shepherd of the Hills, written by Harold Bell Wright in 1907. Old Matt’s Cabin is on the National Register of Historic Places.
