Editorial: Courageous Rep. Jim Bridenstine

God bless U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine.

Besides being a genuine hero due to his military service as a pilot, he is an exemplary Christian in word and deed.

On April 11, Bridenstine walked into the lion’s den by hosting a public town hall at the ORU Mabee Center. Even though thousands of his ardent supporters outnumbered pockets of professional protesters, Bridenstine had to endure two hours of discourteous treatment by a band of thugs who sought only to interrupt his speech.

Liberals cannot win at the ballot box anymore so they feel they must resort to these low-life tactics.

Bridenstine could have easily dodged this conflict. Conservative congressmen are being harassed all over the nation in townhall. These professional protestors want to stir up conflict and even want to get arrested to gain national publicity. They are determined.

But not only did Bridenstine schedule a public town hall, but he answered many of the questions from the liberals despite their accusatory tone.

And he did it with grace, dignity and intelligence.

You see, Bridenstine believes in free speech. And he listens.

The biggest applause of the evening was when Bridenstine vowed to vote to defund Planned Parenthood because “they kill babies.” A small cluster of radical pro-abortionists screamed their hatred at those comments but they were drowned out by the standing ovation from Tulsans who believe in the sanctity of life, even for unborn babies.

U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Oklahoma, wisely chose to cancel a similar town hall in Tahlequah when some overt threats arose. Mullin has hosted almost 200 town halls and he made the right decision this month.

Bridenstine will not run for a fourth term because he is a citizen/legislator and not a career politician. The 1st District will have a challenge to replace him with someone of similar character and spiritual depth.
