EMSA facing a federal lawsuit over kickback charges

Federal officials in Texas have filed a civil complaint against EMSA and EMSA Director Steve Williamson, alleging a kickback scheme involving an ambulance services provider contract.

The action was filed in the Eastern District Federal Court of Texas and claims that an ambulance provider, Paramedics Plus LLC, and a Texas hospital, East Texas Medical Center Regional Health Services, Inc., joined Williamson and EMSA in the kickback scheme.

EMSA is a public trust that runs the ambulance service in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

Prosecutors say they formed a slush fund that was controlled by the hospital which was used to pay more than $20,000,000.00 in kickbacks, including at least $50,000 for Williamson personally. Some money allegedly went to gifts, political contributions, travel costs and spa treatments.
