Sports columnist Paul Finebaum said on ESPN that Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy should be fired for wearing a T-shirt with the logo of a conservative news network.

OSU All-American running back Chuba Hubbard jumped on Gundy after his coach was seen wearing an OANN T-shirt, which stands for One America News Network – a network that believes in  patriotism and traditional values.

Hubbard was angry because OANN has criticized the radical “Black Lives Matter” movement.

Hubbard wrote that he “will not be doing anything with Oklahoma State until things change.”

“I will not stand for this,” Hubbard posted online. “This is completely insensitive to everything going on in society, and it’s unacceptable.”

Gundy met with Hubbard and other players and issued a video statement:

“In light of today’s tweet with the T-shirt that I was wearing, I met with some players and realize it’s a very sensitive issue with what’s going on in today’s society.

“And so, we had a great meeting. [I was] made aware of some things that players feel like can make our organization, our culture even better than it is here at Oklahoma State. I’m looking forward to making some changes, and it starts at the top with me. And we’ve got good days ahead.”

OSU President Burns Hargis said, “I hear and respect the concerns expressed by our black student-athletes. This is a time for unity of purpose to confront racial inequities and injustice. We will not tolerate insensitive behavior by anyone at Oklahoma State.”

After the statement by Hargis,  Hubbard posted a video of himself and Gundy in which the two shook hands.

Hubbard admitted he had done this “the wrong way by tweeting.” “…from now on we’re gonna focus on bringing change, and that’s the most important thing,” he wrote.

All the players continued with workouts.

But these developments weren’t good enough for Finebaum, who promotes the Southeastern Conference and routinely criticizes the Big 12.

While not confessing to his political leanings, Finebaum admitted he has never seen OANN.

“But I’ve read enough about it,” he said on ESPN. “And a commentator of that network recently said that ‘black lives matter’ is a farce. So I can understand the frustration of the players.

“What I can’t understand is why Mike Gundy is allowed to continue to coach at Oklahoma State. This is not his first rodeo. It’s not the first time that he has embarrassed or humiliated the university. I think the sooner Oklahoma State gets rid of Mike Gundy, the better it’s going to be for that school and especially the players who go out every Saturday and give their blood, sweat and tears for that university.

“I have watched Mike Gundy over the years and the only meaningful thing he has contributed over his 15 years is the ‘I’m the Man! I’m 40!’ that went viral years ago. Other than that, he has not been that great of a coach. He is 2-13 against Oklahoma. Try going 2-13 against your rival and continuing as head coach. He humiliated the school two months ago when he laughed off COVID-19 and said basically said ‘bring the players back, there’s too much money at stake,’ and he hasn’t changed that all. He continues to embarrass his school every time he opens his mouth.”
