After losing her runoff election for the Republican nomination for House District 79, Tulsa City Councilor Karen Gilbert has accepted a job as director of Tulsa Crime Stoppers, a nonprofit group that works with the Tulsa Police Department on safety programs, including the anonymous tip hotline – 918-596-COPS (2677).

On August 28, Gilbert lost to conservative Republican Dan Hicks, who will face Democrat Melissa Provenzano on November 6. The District 79 seat is open because Rep. Weldon Watkins, R-Tulsa, is term limited.

Gilbert was first elected to the District 5 of the Tulsa City Council in 2011. She will resign her job as a “parent facilitator” at Wright Elementary in the Tulsa School District.
