The Tulsa Republican Assembly has endorsed Shelley Brumbaugh in the August 8 special election primary for House District 76 in Broken Arrow.
Numerous candidates appeared before the group to make their case for the support of this conservative group. The candidates were given extended time for speeches at last month’s meeting. Then they were asked 20-questions in a written inquiry and they were asked to be available to the members for individual concerns.
Brumbaugh was the overwhelming choice, garnering 94.7 percent of the vote. This far exceeded the 67 percent threshhold for the organization’s formal endorsement.
Brumbaugh, a Broken Arrow businesswoman, is the widow of the late Rep. David Brumbaugh. His passing created the need for a special election.
The other Republican candidates are Cliff Johns, Brian Elliot, Ross Ford, Suzanne Dodson and Jess Guthrie. The two candidates in the Democrat primary are Chris Vanlandingham and Forrest Mayer.
