The annual Thanksgiving food drive by John 3:16 Mission plans to provide up to 4,000 baskets for struggling families plus feed more than 2,500 meals over Thanksgiving.
The Mission needs donations of 88,000 pounds of food to accomplish this goal.
On from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 17, John 3:16 Mission will collect food donations at: Sam’s Club: 7757 S. Olympia Ave.; Sam’s Club: 12905 E. 96 St. North in Owasso; and Sam’s Club: 6922 S. Mingo Road.
Food Drive Shopping List
Frozen turkey, stuffing, instant potatoes, gravy mix, macaroni and cheese; canned sweet potatoes; canned corn; canned green beans; canned fruit; cranberry sauce; pie filling or Jell-O.
Donations can also be made at the Family & Youth Center, 2027 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. plus Under the Sun Garden Centers at 51st Street and Harvard Avenue and 91st Street and Sheridan Avenue.
The food baskets will be distributed November 19-21 at the Family & Youth Center. John 3:16 Mission will start serving Thanksgiving dinners on November 20 with its banquet for the homeless and keep serving dinners at 6:30 p.m. each night through November 24. The Tulsa branch of The Salvation Army is still looking for donations of food and money in anticipation of serving 1,000 people on Thanksgiving Day.

Who is open on Thanksgiving?
Here are some Thanksgiving holiday store hours for some Tulsa retailers.
- Academy Sports and Outdoors will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.
- Belk will open on Thanksgiving at 4 p.m. and stay open until 1 a.m. They will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
- CVS is open on Thanksgiving.
- Harbor Freight is closed on Thanksgiving but open on Black Friday from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.
- J.C. Penny will open on Thanksgiving Day at 2 p.m.
- Kohl’s will open on Thanksgiving Day at 5 p.m.
- Macy’s will be open on Thanksgiving from 5 p.m. – 2 a.m. and from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Black Friday.
- Petco will open at 8 a.m on Black Friday.
- PetSmart opens on Black Friday at 8 a.m.
- Pet Supplies Plus will be closed on Thanksgiving and have regular hours on Black Friday.
- Staples will open at 7 a.m. on Black Friday.
- Target will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 5 p.m. – 1 a.m. and will open on Black Friday at 7 a.m.
- Walgreens will be open Thanksgiving Day.
The City of Tulsa offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday, November 23. Tulsa County offices will be closed on November 22-23 for Thanksgiving.
Some restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving include IHOP, Cracker Barrel, Boston Market, Braums, Denny’s, Applebee’s, Waffle House, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili’s, Ruby Tuesday and others.
