Kathy Taylor wants to be mayor
Kathy Taylor wants to be mayor of Tulsa again.
Taylor decided not to run for re-election after a controversial four-year term in which she paid millions for a new city hall that wasn’t needed and paid millions to settle a lawsuit in which the city wasn’t even a defendant.
She placed her liberal Democrat buddies in key roles in the authorities, boards and commissions that run Tulsa. The vast majority of them were from Midtown.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett, a registered Republican, campaigned for Taylor in 2006. Bartlett is being coy about whether he will run again in 2013 but he certainly will.
Taylor left a terrible financial mess for Bartlett. Her overspending and mismanagement were hard to overcome. She was not responsive to the media and was protected time after time by the liberal daily newspaper.
Former city councilor Bill Christiansen, a Republican, has thrown his hat into the ring and there could be more candidates – Republican or Democrat – that might announce in the next few weeks.
The nonpartisan status of this vote is going to confuse a lot of Tulsans.
Taylor is an elitist. It is baffling how a liberal Democrat could become mayor of a conservative city like Tulsa. She could not have been elected without the votes of Republican women.
The country made a huge mistake by electing Barack Obama twice.
Tulsa should not follow suit and put Taylor back in office.
