More liberalism in store for TPS
No change is coming to Tulsa Public Schools.
That school district is going to be stuck with liberal Superintendent Keith Ballard for at least another two years thanks to a new contract.
And of course he gets a $70,000 bonus to sign the extension.
In 2012, Ballard was reportedly going to retire but the progressive school board (except for conservative Lois Jacobs) begged him to stay. He signed an extension through 2014.
Ballard helped sell what was at that time the largest school bond issue in state history – $354,000,000.00. Ballard wanted to borrow that much money to raise district property and some of that money was spent on buildings that later were put up for sale because of declining enrollment.
Ballard was on board for a legal assault on charter schools because they were competition.
Above all, Ballard believes the only cure for poor performance in public education is more tax money – a lot more tax money.
Tulsa County has by far the highest property tax rates in Oklahoma but that doesn’t faze Ballard and his army of public school bureaucrats and the ultra-liberal Oklahoma Education Association. That tax team aggressively lobbies the Oklahoma Legislature – with the strong assistance from the liberal media, including the Tulsa World – and tries to convince the public that slowing the growth of government means cutting funds to public education.
The Tulsa School Board (except for Lois Jacobs) is so satisfied with lousy results that they want Ballard to stay. Unfortunately, when he goes, he will be replaced by someone just as bad (maybe worse).
The answer is for conservative Tulsans to recruit candidates to populate the school board and bring common sense back to public education.
