Number of Oklahoma tribal casinos skyrockets to 130

More Oklahomans are spending more money gambling as the number of statewide tribal casinos continues to skyrocket.

According to the Oklahoma Tribal Government Gaming 2016 Annual Impact from October of 2016,  31 tribes have 130 gambling operations with 72,850 games and 5,300 bingo seats.

State tribal casinos reported revenues of $4,750,000,000.00 for 2015.

According to the report, the National Indian Gaming Commission states that in 2015 gambling revenues have risen 6.5 percent in what’s described as the “Tulsa District” while the Oklahoma City District rose 5 percent.

A lot more Oklahomans are gambling than out-of-state gamblers.

In 2015, the report states that in-state visitors totaled 27,142,00 (59 percent) while out-of-state residents added up to 18,738,000 (40 percent) visits.

When state voters approved the Oklahoma State Tribal Gaming Act of 2004, proponents (including former Gov. Brad Henry) claimed that most of the gambling would come from out-of-state tourists.

The report claims that tribal casinos have paid $1.123 billion to the state in taxes since 2006. On a 10-year pay out, that averages about $112 million a year in taxes paid on revenues that are in the billions of dollars.

The report claims that the casinos employed 27,944 in 2015 but only 76 percent were full-time positions.

The report states that the tribal gambling operations paid about $325 million in payroll taxes to the state.
