Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, who is in his fourth and final term as mayor of Oklahoma City, will run for governor in 2018.
So far, Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb, Tulsa attorney Gary Richardson and Oklahoma Auditor/Inspector Gary Jones have joined Cornett as Republicans who plan to run.
Gov. Mary Fallin is term limited and can’t run again. The election will be in November of 2018. Cornett plans on filing papers to initiate his campaign. Cornett was a broadcast journalist for 20 years before he won Oklahoma City’s Ward 1 council seat. In 2004, he was elected as the city’s 35th mayor – the first in the city’s history to be elected to four terms.
