Oral Roberts tops Central Arkansas
A 53-point first half gave the Oral Roberts men’s basketball team an early lead and the Golden Eagles topped Central Arkansas 93-80 on Saturday night at the Mabee Center.
The Golden Eagles had a pair of 20-point scorers in Shawn Glover (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Bobby Word (20 points).
Glover recorded a double-double for just the second time in his career, and it was the first time since topping Georgia Southern on November 26 in which ORU has had two players score at least 20 in a game.
Korey Billbury had 16 points and D.J. Jackson had 12 for ORU.
Glover added five blocks in the game, the most for a Golden Eagle since Shawn King had seven against IPFW in 2008.
“In the first half we played with energy, we played hard and we played together,” said Coach Scott Sutton. “In the second half we came out pretty good and got up by 26 and then kind of stopped playing and that was disappointing. Give them credit though, they hit some bombs to get back into the game.”
ORU is at Abilene Christian Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and will face Incarnate Word Saturday in San Antonio, Texas, at 4 p.m.
