The Summit League Men’s Basketball Championship begins Saturday with Fort Wayne as the top seed and Oral Roberts seeded No. 7.
The winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
No. 2 seed South Dakota State (23-7, 12-4) will open against ORU (14-16, 6-10) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. That game will be televised on ESPN3.
Tuesday’s championship game is set for 8 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN2 and on WatchESPN.com.
After setting 11 Summit League Tournament attendance records in 2015, the event returns to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center for the second year and a record eighth season in Sioux Falls.
In the last regular season game, ORU couldn’t complete the comeback as the Golden Eagles fell 102-98 at Omaha.
ORU’s scoring was led by Obi Emegano (26) and DaQuan Jeffries, who had a career-best 21 points. Jeffries also teamed up with fellow freshman Javan White to lead ORU to a 34-33 rebounding edge as the freshmen grabbed nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
“If we would have competed for the first 33 minutes that we did in the final seven minutes, we probably would have won the game,” said ORU coach Scott Sutton. “We didn’t play with a sense of urgency like you have to in order to beat a good team on the road. I’m disappointed with the loss but we have to move on”
