ORU’s Sutton dismissed

After 18 years as head coach, Scott Sutton has been dismissed at Oral Roberts University.

No replacement has been announced.

Sutton began his coaching career as an administrative assistant for Coach Bill Self (now at Kansas) at ORU in 1995.

Sutton, the winningest coach in ORU history, was let go by ORU Athletic Director Mike Carter following his worst season. The 8-22 record was the worst record at ORU since Self went 6-12 in 1993-94. ORU wound up in last place in the Summit League with a 6-21 mark.

There are reports that Scott Sutton could have stayed but he refused to unless ORU President Billy Wilson agreed the extend the contract of his brother, Sean Sutton, an assistant coach. Rodney Perry, who joined Sutton’s staff prior to the 2016-2017 season, will be ORU’s interim coach.
