OSU 78, Iowa State 76
Smart led OSU with 21 points – including the winning layup with 3 seconds to go – as the Cowboys edged Iowa State 78-76 in Big 12 play.
Oklahoma State has now won 17 consecutive games against Iowa State inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
“We figured out how to win — that’s about it,” said Ford. “I’m very proud of our guys. That says a lot about our team, how we won. To just hang in there, keep a positive attitude and keep fighting when it seemed like a night where we played a great team who played great. We left them open a lot, but they made every shot. Every time we made a mistake, they made us pay for it. I told our guys to appreciate and enjoy the win. They deserved it.”
“They’re a great shooting team,” said Smart. “We were right there, but every time we’d try to get over the hump, they’d pull us right back down. This team has been through a lot of adversity and that’s when that experience comes in. It helps you become stronger and you just fight through it and that’s what we did.”
OSU hosted Baylor Wednesday night. The Cowboys travel to Texas Saturday for a 1:45 p.m. tipoff.
