OU vs. Iowa State

March 14, 2013

Led by All Big 8 forward Romero Osby, No. 4 seed Oklahoma will play No. 5 seed Iowa State on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Kansas City’s Sprint Center. The game will be televised by ESPN2.

Osby, Amath M’Baye and Steven Pledger have been named to the 2013 All-Big 12 Team.

Osby was selected to the first team while M’Baye and Pledger were third-team honorees.  M’Baye was also named to the six-member Big 12 All-Rookie Team.

Osby is OU’s first first-team All-Big 12 selection since Blake Griffin in 2009.  The Meridian, Miss., senior, who transferred from Mississippi State three years ago, is OU’s leading scorer (15.7 ppg) and rebounder (6.9 rpg) this season.  In Big 12 play, he ranked first in the league in field goals (109), second in scoring (17.8 ppg), third in field goal percentage (.540) and fifth in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and free throw percentage (.776). Osby led OU (or tied for the lead) in scoring in 13 of 18 Big 12 games and scored in double figures in all but one of them.  He has shot 50 percent or better from the field in 19 of the last 23 games and over the last seven outings is averaging 22.0 points and 8.0 boards while shooting .583.

Osby surpassed 20 points six times in Big 12 play, and netted at least 26 points on three occasions.  He scored a career-high 31 points Feb. 27 at Texas.  Osby led OU with 26 blocked shots and 20 charges taken.  He was an honorable mention all-league pick last year.

Oklahoma got blasted by Iowa State in Ames 83-64 on Feb. 4. The Sooners got their revenge by racing past the Cyclones 86-69 on March 2 in Norman.

On March 2, Oklahoma tied an NCAA record for free throw makes without a miss by hitting 34 of 34 attempts. OU outrebounded Iowa State 36-27 and held ISU to only four offensive rebounds. The Sooners had a season-low five turnovers in that game.

On Feb. 4, Iowa State was red hot from behind the three-point line and outscored OU by 24 point from behind the arc. Iowa State was 11-for-27 from 3-point range while OU hit 3-for-16.
