No. 1 Alabama beat No. 2 Georgia 26-23 in overtime Monday night in Atlanta in the national championship game. It was the sixth national championship for Tide coach Nick Saban.
In the first season under new head coach Lincoln Riley, the Sooners won the Big 12 Championship and went 12-2.
Oklahoma State (10-3) was No. 14 in the final ranking. OSU defeated No. 24 Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
The Big 12 had three ranked teams: No. 3 OU, No. 9 TCU and No. 14 OSU.
South Florida, the only undefeated team in major college football, was No. 6 in the final ranking.
