Letter to the editor: Pope should not encourage the recognition of a Palestinian state

The New York Times reported recently that the Vatican has concluded a treaty to recognize Palestinian statehood, a symbolic but significant step welcomed by Palestinians but upsetting to the Israeli government.

The treaty is said to be a broad one regarding the Vatican’s interests in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.  Pope Francis, the leader of the world’s one billion Catholics, has long signaled his wish for a Palestinian state.  For the past year, the Vatican had informally referred to the country as “state of Palestine,” in its yearbook as well as in its program for Francis’ 2014 visit to the Holy Land.

God cannot be very pleased with Pope Francis regarding this decision.  God’s Word is quite clear throughout the Holy Bible:  God gave the land to Israel and the land is not to be divided.  In addition, God gave many stern warnings to those who would go against Israel.  One of those warnings is as follows:

“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:3 KJV).

It would seem to me that Pope Francis is not only provoking God with this action – he is also inviting a curse upon himself and those who would be partakers of this ungodly treaty.

God, forgive us and have mercy on us.
