Seven Republicans and only one Democrat have filed to run for the special election in Oklahoma Senate District 37.
The top votegetter of a primary on September 12 will face the lone Democrat who filed, Allison Ikley-Freeman.
The Republican candidates are:
- Brian O’Hara of Jenks
- Grady Grant of Jenks
- Brian M. Jackson of Sand Springs
- Rick Hardesty of Tulsa
- Nicole Nixon of Tulsa
- R. Jay McAtee of Sand Springs
- Phil Nollan of Sand Springs
The seat is open because of the resignation of Sen. Dan Newberry, R-Tulsa. Newberry resigned to pursue his business career. Even though his resignation is not official until January 31, 2018, a special election between Ikley-Freeman and the winner of the GOP primary will take place November 14 and the winner will be seated at the beginning of the 2018 session of the Oklahoma Legislature.
