Starlight concerts, a Tulsa tradition, is celebrating the band’s 71st year of playing music ‘under the stars.” The Starlight band is Oklahoma’s only professional concert band and includes over 50 musicians. L. Dale Barnett is Starlight’s conductor and artistic director. The Jazz Orchestra is led by Starlight’s jazz director, Rich Fisher.
Starlight’s concert series offers a variety of music, including patriotic, Broadway tunes, pops, big band music and jazz.
The 2017 Starlight Concert Series is:
June 20 – Concert Band presents Made in America with special guests, The TU Camp Band and Sheridan Road
June 27 – Concert Band presents Across the Briny Seas
July 7 – Jazz Orchestra presents Jazz Under the Stars
July 11 – Concert Band and Night at the Movies with special guest, organist Bill Rowland, accompanying two silent films
July 18 – Jazz Orchestra presents The Best of the Big Band Era
Starlight’s free concerts take place at Guthrie Green, 111 East Brady Street, in Tulsa’s Brady Arts District. Concerts begin at 8 p.m. Admission and parking are free Audience members may bring blankets, lawn chairs, picnic dinners and pet dogs on leashes. Door prizes are given away at each concert. Tax-deductible donations are accepted at each concert, by mail or online.
