Alabama’s strategy was to keep the ball away from freshman phenom Trae Young of Oklahoma Saturday and it paid off as the Crimson Tide won 80-73.
In a playoff type atmosphere in a packed arena in Alabama, Young hit only 17. It was just the second time this year that Young, who is leading the nation in scoring, was held to less than 20 points. Young had 15 points in the season opener against Omaha.
Khadeem Lattin led the Sooners with 18 points while Rashard Odomes added 15.
No. 12 OU trailed most of the game but rallied to take a five-point lead with 11 minutes to go but it wasn’t enough.
OU hosted Baylor Tuesday night. The Sooners travel to Austin Saturday to play Texas (on ESPN) at 5:15. Then Oklahoma hosts a rematch with West Virginia at 8 p.m. Monday (also on ESPN).
