During annual maintenance of the FieldTurf at H.A. Chapman Stadium, unexpected concerns with the playing surface were discovered and have convinced FieldTurf professionals that replacement of the entire field is prudent and necessary.
Removal of the current surface began on July 27 and installation of the new turf is expected to be complete by August 20. Tulsa opens the home season on Sept. 9 against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Chapman Stadium.
“FieldTurf was cleaning and performing preventive maintenance on the field when several concerns were identified, including an unforeseen reaction between the rubber infill and the cleaning chemical that was used,” said Brian Scislo, Tulsa’s senior associate athletic director. “This series of events has culminated to the point that FieldTurf, under warranty of its product, is replacing the entire playing surface before the upcoming football season. This type of customer commitment is just one of the reasons we selected FieldTurf for our stadium.”
FieldTurf’s newest product, Revolution 360 with Cool Play 3.0, will be the new stadium surface. The Revolution 360 fiber features durability, resilience and feel. FieldTurf’s exclusive and innovative Extruded Composite (EC) top dressing allows the CoolPlay system to deliver the same behavior and overall stability as FieldTurf’s Elite system fields found in many stadiums.
The current surface, FieldTurf Revolution Cool Play, was installed in the summer of 2013.
The design of the field has Golden Hurricane spelled out in each end zone in gold letters with a white outline on blue turf. The word Hurricane stretches from one sideline to the other in the end zone, while the word Golden will be in a smaller size above the word Hurricane. All the letters and numerals will be in the school’s adidas font.
The school’s official athletic logo, script Tulsa with Hurricane Warning flags, is featured at mid-field, while smaller Hurricane Warning flag logos will be placed at the 35-yard line kick-off locations. The designated American Athletic Conference logo ‘A’ will be located at opposite 25-yard lines facing the press box side of the field.
