The Tulsa men’s basketball team will open the 2016 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against Stephen F. Austin at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.
The tournament takes place in Honolulu. The Diamond Head Classic is an eight-team bracketed tournament that features 12 games over three days, and each team will play one game per day.
The game between the Golden Hurricane and Lumberjacks will be televised on ESPNU. The tournament field is San Diego State, Southern Miss, San Francisco, Utah, Illinois State and host Hawai’i.
The Tulsa-SFA winner will face the winner of San Diego State and Southern Miss at 3:30 p.m. CT on Dec. 23 on ESPN2. The consolation and championship games are Dec. 25.
TU is one of five schools in the tournament to appear in the 2015-16 postseason, including Hawai’i, Stephen F. Austin, Utah and San Diego State. Tulsa and Stephen F. Austin have met twice in basketball, most recently in 2012-13 when SFA won 57-41 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Lumberjacks, which lead the series 2-0, have played in the NCAA Tournament each of the last three years.
