The University of Tulsa will expand beer sales for the upcoming football season to include the general stadium seating area, a measure approved by the University’s Board of Trustees. Since 2008, beer has been sold in the Suite and Club areas, as well as outside the stadium gates.
Tulsa will also adopt a “no re-entry” policy, falling in line with policies that have been implemented at most college stadiums, including state schools Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and 10 American Athletic Conference institutions.
Tulsa joins a growing list of college athletic departments that have added or expanded in-stadium alcohol sales, including recently announced schools Marshall, Ohio State, Penn State and Pittsburgh.
“The addition of beer sales inside the stadium will add another element to our game day fan experience and be an additional revenue source for our department,” said Vice President & Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg. “The University has studied the idea for more than a year and we have seen from our peers around the country that when done responsibly, beer sales can be a positive experience.”
Security measures will be increased and Sodexo, the University’s concessions vendor, will provide appropriate training to its staff members.
Tulsa opens the 2016 football season with a home game against San Jose State on September 3. Game time is 6 p.m. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State provide alcohol in suites and clubs but don’t sell beer in their concession stands.
