Tulsa Leaders’ Essays: Rep. Ken Walker

Recently, I had the chance to talk to about 300 high school teenagers on what I think it means to be an American.  As I pondered what to talk to about, it kept coming back to one word – DREAM and our ability to accomplish those dreams.

If there is one place in all the world where you can Dream Big Dreams and accomplish them, it is the good ole U.S. of A. But, the fulfillment of those dreams does not come automatically.

We don’t just stop at the dreaming.  We have to eliminate excuses as to why we can’t accomplish those dreams.  When you step out to accomplish a dream, the voices will surely come that will say, “you are too tall or short or skinny or plump or you didn’t come from the right stock.”

Don’t listen to those voices.

Instead, I think it is important to listen to and for God’s voice and seek His plan and His dreams for you.  He made you a masterpiece and made you to create masterpieces.  He desires for you to fulfill those plans and purposes more than you do.

When you have the dream and don’t know how to accomplish it, don’t be afraid to take a step into the unknown.

Lastly, think beyond yourself and leave a lasting positive legacy.
