What will happen in 2019?

It’s hard to predict the future but there are some positive and negative trends that have emerged.

On a national level, the progress made by President Donald Trump will hit a brick wall with the Democrat control of the House of Representatives. Their obstruction of his policies has already begun. While the leftist Democrats can’t pass any new laws without the Republican-controlled Senate, look for a flurry of pointless committee investigations of Trump and a probable run at impeachment. Should the House Democrats impeach Trump, it would take a two-thirds’ vote in the Senate to oust him. A phony impeachment could guarantee Trump’s re-election in 2020.

Gov. Kevin Stitt brings a breath of fresh air to state government. After eight years of Gov. Mary Fallin – who ran as a Republican but acted like a Democrat – Stitt has a great opportunity to make state government more efficient. Again, he will have to battle liberal Democrats and moderate Republicans to apply business principles to state agencies and to resist massive tax increases. Another plus for Stitt is that he will present his Christian viewpoint from his bully pulpit and that is sorely needed.

In Tulsa, city government is completely out of touch with most citizens who don’t live in Midtown or Downtown. Liberal Republicans and ultra-liberal Democrats run the mayor’s office, the city council and almost every authority, board or commission. Look for a push for a giant tax increase, more public financing to benefit private business and a turn away from traditional, moral values.

The New Year is a clean slate. It’s best to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
