Three Big 12 Conference won their first game in the NCAA Tournament and have advanced to the Sweet 16.

Texas Tech, a No. 3 seed, opened with 97-62 win over No. 14 seed Montana State. They beat No. 11 seed Notre Dame 59-53 in the second round.

The Red Raiders will face No. 2 seed Duke in the next round.

No. 1 seeded Kansas knocked off Texas Southern 83-56 in round one and then downed Creighton 79-72 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. KU will play No. 4 seeded Providence next.

“I still think this, that we’re still yet to be our best,” KU coach Bill Self said after the win over Creighton. “I mean, I still believe we’ve got another gear or another step we can take.”

No. 11 seeded Iowa State upset No. 6 seed LSU, 59-54, in the opening round and then upset No. 3 seeded Wisconsin 54-49 in the second round. The Cyclones face No. 10 seeded Miami of Florida next.

“How we turned around this program from [2-22] to the Sweet 16, it’s crazy,” said Cyclones guard Gabe Kalscheur, who scored a game-high 22 points. “A lot of people don’t see that as big from the outside, but in this community of Ames, Iowa, it’s a big turnaround.”

The Big 12 has had an impressive showing compared to other conferences.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has three teams in the Sweet 16 (Duke, North Carolina and Miami); the Big Ten has two (Purdue and Michigan); the Pac-12 has two (UCLA and Arizona); Arkansas is the only Southeastern Conference team left and Houston is the only American Athletic team in the Sweet 16.
