Former Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris has filed for the open seat for District 7 on the Tulsa Board of Education.

When asked why he is running, Harris said, “I have always been called into public service.”

Harris said political ambition played no part in his decision but he had been urged by friends and supporters to help make things better at Tulsa Public Schools.

District 7 is an open seat because Vice President Suzanne Schreiber decided not to seek another term.

Three other candidates – Junegrid Baker, Ellen Fuller, and Susan Lamkin – also filed last week. Baker is a Spanish teacher at Tulsa Public School.

The schools in District 7 are Carnegie, Eisenhower International, Grissom, Key, Marshall, McClure and Patrick Henry elementary schools; Thoreau Demonstration Academy and Memorial High School.

Because only two candidates filed in TPS District 4, there will be no primary vote. Incumbent Shawna Keller will face E’Lana Ashley in the April 5 general election.

District 4 schools are Cooper, Disney, Dolores Huerta, Kerr, Lewis and Clark, Lindbergh, Peary and Skelly elementary schools; East Central Junior High School; and East Central High School.
