While playing their third game in five days, the Oklahoma State Cowboys upset  then-No. 1 Baylor 61-54 Saturday in Waco.

Baylor (15-2, 3-2 Big 12) had won a national-best 21 games in a row until a loss January 11 at home to Texas Tech.

Bryce Thompson led the Cowboys (9-7, 2-3) with 19 points on Saturday. OSU coach Mike Boynton and his team are ineligible for postseason play.

Baylor trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half and pulled to within one point (54-55) with 1:20 left but Thompson responded with two free throws with 26 seconds left. Two Baylor turnovers sealed the victory for OSU.

Oklahoma State was coming off a 78-57 loss on Thursday night at Texas Tech, a makeup of a Jan. 1 game postponed because of COVID-19 issues at OSU.

Baylor hadn’t had consecutive losses since the last three regular-season games of the 2018-19 season and its Big 12 tournament opener. The Bears also hadn’t lost back-to-back games at home since the end of the 2015-16 season.

Matthew Mayer led Baylor with 16 points. The Bears shot 31% from the field – their season low. The 22 points in the first half was a season low and the 57 points overall was also a season low. OSU travels to Texas for a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
