Oklahoma State added three more players – including former Oregon commit wide receiver Stephon Johnson – to the 17 players they already signed for the 2022 season.

They are welcome additions after the Cowboys lost more than 15 players to the transfer portal and will lose others to the NFL Draft.

Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 182-pound wideout from DeSoto, Texas,, ranks 73rd at his position for the class of 2022 and comes to the Cowboys as the No. 76 recruit in the state of Texas.

Johnson committed to Oregon last March over offers from USC, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Penn State, among others. He decommitted from the Ducks in January after a coaching change at Oregon.

The OSU incoming class includes six four-star prospects and is ranked 28th nationally and third among Big 12 teams — behind Texas and Oklahoma, according to 247Sports. Com.

Wideout Talyn Shettron, the No. 2 in-state recruit for 2022 from Edmond Santa Fe, highlights the incoming class alongside Bixby’s Braylin Presley, who was named Gatorade’s state player of the year for 2021 in December. OSU signed a pair of four-star running backs – Beggs’ CJ Brown and Ollie Gordon from Fort Worth, Texas.

OSU signed quarterback Garret Rangel from Frisco, Texas. Rangel impressed OSU coaches at their summer camp. Rangel is the first high school recruit for quarterback coach Tim Rattay at OSU.

Both Shettron (73)  and Rangel (282) were included in the ESPN300, with Shetron also ranked among the nation’s top 100 overall prospects by Rivals (86) and 247Sports (97).

The group includes 12 offensive players and eight defensive players.

The two most well-represented states are Oklahoma with nine players and Texas with seven, but five states and two countries are represented in total. There are 17 high school players and three junior college transfers in the class.

Of the 12 offensive players, four are wide receivers, four are offensive linemen, two are running backs, one is a quarterback and one is a Cowboy Back.  The defensive side of the ball features four defensive linemen, two linebackers and two defensive backs.

Linebacker Xavier Benson and defensive lineman Seleti Fevaleaki have Power Five experience, as Benson started 10 games for Texas Tech in 2019 before opting out of the 2020 season and then transferring to Tyler Junior College, and Fevaleaki played 10 games at BYU in 2020 before transferring to Snow College and earning 2021 NJCAA first team All-America honors.
