There’s not a lot of difference between the top and the bottom teams in the Big 12 Conference.
Oklahoma (14-11, 4-8 in the Big 12) missed a last second shot that would have forced overtime in a tight game at Kansas Saturday. The Jayhawks (20-4, 9-2) won 71-69.
Kansas led by six points with less than two minutes but the Sooners came back and almost evened the score.
“We had to win it about three times and then almost lost it,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. ”We had one timeout left and I probably should have called it. I thought I’d save it in case something bad happened.”
Jordan Goldwire had 20 and Tanner 19 for the Sooners. Elijah Harless added 12 points and Jalen Hill had 10.
Groves hit four of his first eight 3-point attempts.
Oklahoma was up 34-31 at halftime.
On February 9, the Sooners upset No. 9 Texas Texas Tech in Norman.
OU’s Umoja Gibson hit eight 3-pointers and finished with 30 points.
The Red Raiders led 30-25 at halftime, but were outscored 45-25 in the second half. Oklahoma ended the game going 13-for-28 (46.4 percent) on 3-pointers. Tech was only 2-for-17 on 3-pointers and shot 21-for-53 (39.6 percent overall). OU finished the game shooting 48.9 percent from the field – a season-high for an opponent against the Red Raider defense this season.
“We were chasing them the whole second half,” Texas Tech coach Mark Adams said. “That’s not the way we like to play. You have to give Oklahoma all the credit. It was a tale of two halves. They came out and responded after we outplayed them in the first half. They got the momentum and never looked back.”
