According to a study by CandyStore.com, Cadbury Crème Eggs are the worst Easter candy and Cadbury Mini Eggs are the best.
“Cadbury Creme Eggs aren’t the only Easter candy made by Cadbury,” said Clair Robins of CandyStore. com. “It’s the worst, but they also happen to make the very best.”
According to the study, here are the worst Easter candies:
- Cadbury Crème Eggs
- Bunny Corn/Easter Candy Corn
- Peeps Easter Candy
- Chicks and Rabbits Marshmallow Candy
- Solid Chocolate Bunnies
- Jelly Beans (generic)
- Chocolate Crosses
- Hershey’s Kisses Carrot Cake Flavor
- Jordan Almonds
- Fluffly Stuff Cotton Candy Tails
Here are the best Easter candies:
- Cadbury Mini Eggs
- Hollow Chocolate Bunnies
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs
- Lindt Chocolate Carrots
- Robins’ Eggs from Whoppers
- Kinger Joy Eggs Candy
- Jelly Beans (Gourmet/naturally flavored)
- Foil-wrapped Chocolate Eggs
- Skittles-Filled Easter Eggs
- Sour Patch Easter Bunnies
Cadbury Crème Eggs have a chocolate shell with a sugary cream inside that looks like the white and yellow of an egg.
“The thing is, they’re just awfully horrible to actually eat,” Robins said.
They are messy to eat, especially if the egg gets warm and the shell softens. A classic candy, Kraft bought the parent company and changed the shell to a “standard chocolate mix.” It was such a change that people started a petition to get them to switch back to the old recipe. And people complain about the filling because it has the consistency and feel of eating a raw egg.
Why are Cadbury Mini Eggs rated so high?
“They may not have the history of chocolate bunnies, but Cadbury Mini Eggs are hugely popular,” Robin said. “They were far and away the most popular Easter candy in our study. There is just something about these little eggs that is irresistible.”
There is some controversy there, too, because Cadbury dropped “Easter” from the packaging but the company said the association with Easter was automatic.
Other comments include:
- Peeps get compared to rubber or sugary foam.
- Chicks and Rabbits Marshmallow Candy are comparable to circus peanuts and they really don’t look much like chicks or rabbits.
- Solid Chocolate Bunnies have chocolate overload. Hollow Chocolate Bunnies and have just the right amount of chocolate.
- People don’t hate jelly beans – they just prefer gourmet jelly beans with more flavor and that don’t crack.
- Survey responders said Chocolate Crosses are an inappropriate way to celebrate the religious Easter holiday.
- Hershey’s Kisses Carrot Cake Flavor made the worst list because of the “light cream cheese-like filling.”
- The almonds in Jordan Almonds are too hard. People say they are hard as rocks and uncomfortable to eat.
- Fluffly Stuff Cotton Candy Tails are really just bags of cotton candy that have nothing to do with rabbits.
- Skittles-Filled Easter Eggs are filled with high quality jelly beans. Skittles were rated the top candy last Halloween.
- Foil-wrapped Chocolate Eggs are just a little crunchy but delicious.
- Kinder Joy Eggs Candy only recently became available in the United States but have been big in Europe for a long time. They have chocolatey wafer balls floating in some creamy filling.
- Robins’ Eggs from Whoppers are malt balls shaped like little robin eggs with a candy shell.
- Lindt Chocolate Carrots are shaped like carrots and wrapped in foil. They dress up an Easter basket. They have a hint of hazelnut flavor.
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are shaped like an egg and extremely popular.
