Oklahoma fell to West Virginia 93-61 at WVU Coliseum on Saturday night.
Grant Sherfield led the Sooners (12-11, 2-8 Big 12) with 16 points and buried four 3-pointers in the first half. Joe Bamisile added 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting and Jalen Hill recorded a team-best eight rebounds and added six points. Bijan Cortes made his first career start and tallied six points, three assists and two rebounds.
West Virginia (14-9, 3-7 Big 12) raced out to a 10-2 advantage in the first two minutes. The Sooners answered with a Cortes layup and Sherfield 3-pointer to bring the WVU advantage back to three.
After an Erik Stevenson 3-pointer, Sherfield buried his second triple of the night and OU again pulled within three.
The Mountaineers pushed their lead to 11 with 12 minutes left in the half and the Sooners put together an eight-point run. Hill started the spurt with a layup and Sherfield capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers.
West Virginia finished the first 20 minutes up 56-30.
The Sooners opened the second frame with back-to-back baskets. WVU’s Stevenson swung the momentum back to the Mountaineers and scored the next eight West Virginia points.
After another Stevenson 3-pointer, Sam Godwin slammed home a dunk to start a nine-point spurt over the next two minutes. Bamisile concluded the run with a fastbreak dunk.
West Virginia regained control and did not let its lead dip below 20.
