OKLAHOMA CITY –HB1445, authored by Assistant House Democratic Leader Melissa Provenzano, D-Tulsa would require school districts to post a copy of their bond proposal to their website at least 30 days prior to the election.
The legislation also requires school districts post updates to their website of any material changes made to a voter-approved project within 30 days following school board approval of such changes.
Rep. Provenzano said this measure builds in a new layer of transparency between school districts and their communities when large or significant changes are made to voter-approved bond projects.
“It adds accountability to the school bond process. Voters have a right to know exactly how their tax dollars are spent, even after a bond package is passed. Taxpayer transparency matters,” Rep. Provenzano said.
The bill was signed into law last week by Governor Kevin Stitt and takes effect this November.
