Tulsa Public Schools announced the launch of a new initiative designed to create deeper connections and promote student well-being through the placement of caring adult ambassadors at school sites. The effort, dubbed the “One Team” Ambassador program, invites community members to join a roster of stakeholders to provide support at individual schools.

The program, launching with the new school year, allows interested adults in the community to apply to join the ranks of the ambassadors through an online process that matches them according to their interests, time commitment, and selected school/geographic location. After completing an application form, interested community members will be screened through a district process, including a required background check, and matched with a school site where their support can be most meaningful.

“Everywhere I go, community members share how excited they are to support our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson. “I am thrilled to launch the ‘One Team’ effort for the new school year that will provide a simple, safe way for our students to be connected to caring adults while supporting their overall well-being and safety.”

After completing the application process and required background screening, One Team ambassadors will be matched with a school site. Interested participants can choose from areas of interest that range from morning greetings and literacy support, to afterschool club engagement and even presence at athletic and extracurricular events. Once an application has been approved and a school match is completed, ambassadors will participate in a required 90-minute training conducted by the school district.

Ambassadors will receive a t-shirt, lapel pin, and complimentary passes to selected district extracurricular events as part of their onboarding. Details on participation requirements and registration is available online here and a direct link to the application is available here. (Spanish here.)
