Missouri hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Tigers hit another three-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Oklahoma Sooners, 88-87, Saturday in Columbia, Missouri. It was the Sooners sixth straight loss.
“I was disheartened for my guys,” said OU head coach Porter Moser. “How you respond in life when things aren’t going your way [is important], and we’re on a losing streak. Their attitudes, their togetherness, their willingness to follow a game plan, their hearts they gave, so my reaction is, I feel for my guys.”
The Sooners’ Tae Davis made two free throws to give OU an 81-78 lead with 5.6 seconds remaining in the second half. Then Missouri’s Trent Pierce hit a 37-footer with no time left to force overtime.
Oklahoma led for most of overtime period and had an 87-85 advantage with four seconds remaining, but the Tigers’ Mark Mitchell made a three-pointer at the buzzer for the one-point win.
The Sooners are now 11-9 overall and 1-6 in the SEC. Missouri improved to 14-6, 4-3 SEC. OU outshot Missouri 48%-45% from the field and 44%-29% from 3-point range. Missouri won the rebounding battle, 41-29 and outscored OU 19-3 in second-chance points.
OU was led by Nijel Pack with 25 points and Xzayvier Brown added 19. The Sooners also got double-digit points from Derrion Reid with 12 and Jadon Jones had 10.
It was a tight game throughout with OU leading 37-36 at halftime.
The Sooners will host Texas at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at Lloyd Noble Center.
