No. 1-ranked Arizona remained undefeated by blasting the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 84-47, on Saturday in Tucson. The Wildcats are 23-0, 10-0 in Big 12 play, extending their best start in school history. Oklahoma State is now 16-7, 4-6 Big 12.
Arizona’s start is the best in Big 12 history, bettering Kansas’ 22-0 opening run in the 1996-97 season.
Arizona jumped out to an early lead while playing tight defense against the Cowboys. The Wildcats led 40-22 at halftime.
Arizona used a 13-0 run in the second half to extend its lead to 30 (55-25) with 13:25 remaining. The Wildcats shot 59.4% in the second half.
Oklahoma State was led by Anthony Roy with 10 points. He was the only player in double-digits. For Arizona, Brayden Burries led the way with 15 points, Jaden Bradley added 13, Koa Peat and Anthony Dell’Orso each chipped in 11.
The Cowboys shooting struggled throughout the game, making only 24.6% of their shots from the field. The Wildcats shot 51.6% from the field for the game but only made 2-of-14 three-pointers. Coming into the game, OSU was averaging 86.5 points per game and had defeated No. 16 BYU last Wednesday, 99-92.
Arizona outrebounded OSU, 55-35, and held a 54-14 advantage on points in the paint.
Oklahoma State was scheduled to play at Arizona State on Tuesday night and will be home to host TCU on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. on ESPN2.
