One of the reasons for the ongoing failure in Tulsa Public Schools is the political idealogy of the local school board.
For years, the only openly conservative member of the Tulsa School Board was Dr. Lois Jacobs and she left after being harassed by the liberal news media, the teachers’ union and groups like the PTA.
Tulsa is a conservative city and that perspective should be represented in all levels of government, but especially on the board of education.
Eight people have filed for office for the open seat (District 1) for the TPS Board. The election is “nonpartisan” but only one of the candidates is a registered Republican and that is Nicole Nixon.
Being a registered Republican doesn’t mean that you are conservative but Nixon is running on a platform of traditional values and common sense.
She has “skin in the game.” Her children go to Tulsa Public Schools. Nixon was shocked when the school board, under the direction of Superintendent Deborah Gist, closed three Westside schools without due consideration given to the families on that side of the river. TPS held “public meetings” for “input” but it was obvious the board’s minds were made up. They wanted to do Gist’s bidding.
“As a parent I feel we have been cut out of our children’s education, and that’s not OK with me,” Nixon wrote on her website. “We must restore power and responsibility to the parents and local communities that know their children’s needs best.”
Big-spending liberals are shaping public education in Tulsa and the only way it is stopped is through leadership on the school board.
The Tulsa Beacon endorses Nicole Nixon for District 1 and urges you vote for her on February 12. The fate of our children is at stake.
