No. 23 Oklahoma, led by Kristian Doolittle with 16 points and eight rebounds, held off Oklahoma State in Norman Saturday for a 74-64 win in the first round of Bedlam basketball this season.
OSU was leading the Big 12 in three-point shooting (39 percent) but managed to hit only six of 26 attempts against the Sooners (12-2, 1-1 in the Big 12).
“If we didn’t stop them, we would have been blown out because we were having trouble getting the ball to go down,” Doolittle said. “But we were able to disrupt their shooters, run them off the 3-point line — basically everything we had planned on doing going into the game. We did a good job executing our defense.”
OU made only 35 percent of their shots from the field. OU’s Brady Manek added 15 points and Christian James contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds for OU. “About midway through the first half, you knew it was going be a grind either way,” said OU coach Lon Kruger. “Points were hard to come by.”
Thomas Dziagwa had 16 points and Michael Weathers had 13 for Oklahoma State (6-8, 0-2).
“We’re at a crossroads where we either have to choose to stay focused and everything, or not,” said OSU coach Mike Boynton. “We’ve just got to continue doing our job and going to practice and getting better.”
OU will host TCU at 1 p.m. Saturday and Kansas State at 6 p.m. January 16. OSU is at West Virginia at 11 a.m. Saturday and hosts Baylor at 8 p.m. Monday.

“Obviously, heck of a ball game,” TU coach Frank Haith said. “Give South Florida a lot of credit for battling back. I thought for 39 minutes of the game we played really, really well. I’m proud of how we executed to win this basketball game.”
