Congratulations to Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray and The University of Oklahoma football team.
As talented and accomplished as Murray is, even he recognizes that some credit is due to his teammates and his coaches for this prestigious award.
Former Sooner quarterback Baker Mayfield – now starring for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL – won last season and that makes it even more remarkable that Murray won in 2018.
Any high school quarterback in the nation that wants to be the best in the business has to look at Oklahoma and see the potential for greatness.
In his acceptance speech, Murray thanked his offensive line, his running backs, his receivers, the entire defense, special teams’ players, his coaches and perhaps most importantly, his family. The type of hard work, persistence and success that he enjoys is etched in the Murray Family.
Oklahoma gets downgraded for a lot of apparent shortcomings but college football isn’t one of them. No. 4 OU will take on No. 1 Alabama in the Orange Bowl on December 29 for the chance to advance to the national championship game. OU has been to the four-team College Football Playoff three of the last four years and in both years since Lincoln Riley became head coach.
Last year, Sooner fans feared that their level of success might not be sustained. Thanks to Murray, Riley and the Sooner team, there is a lot to be proud of.
