Enough unborn babies have died in Oklahoma.

State Sen. Joseph Silk, a hero in the truest sense of the word, has introduced a bill in the Oklahoma Legislature to criminalize abortion by placing it in the state statues on felony homicide.

Senate Bill 13, the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act, would make abortion a homicide next year with a punishment that includes life in prison. The bill would grant unborn babies the same right to life as other humans, beginning at conception.

The bill voids federal laws and court rulings that provide for the killing of unborn babies.

Abortion is illegal in Oklahoma, except when performed by a licensed physician. Oklahoma voters have voted to end abortion but their votes were overturned by the liberal Oklahoma Supreme Court in deference to the Roe v. Wade ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973.

The American people never voted to legalize abortion. It was a decision made by nine unelected justices. Under the enumerated powers in the U.S. Constitution, the Supreme Court has no right to overturn state laws against abortion.

The Oklahoma Constitution trumps the Supreme Court except for those enumerated powers. America is made of sovereign states and should not be subject to justices who create law instead of just interpreting it.

Silk, R-Broken Bow, said the issue is a parallel to the abolition of slavery. His purpose is not to overturn Roe v. Wade but to stop abortion in Oklahoma.

The liberal Oklahoma Supreme Court has successfully stopped effort after effort to end abortion in the state.

This is a noble effort by Silk, a genuine Christian conservative. This will be a test for the Republicans who lead the House and Senate. Are they really for unborn children?
