Silver Dollar City announced the winners of a search to salute community heroes as part of a “Dream Big, Do Good” initiative, recognizing extraordinary people who make a difference in their communities. The “Dream Big, Do Good” campaign was held in conjunction with the theme park’s new world record-setting roller coaster Time Traveler.
Ten individual winners, nominated by people in their communities, will each receive a prize package to visit Branson and Silver Dollar City with family or friends. The program to recognize heroes kicked off with Heroes’ Month at the theme park in September.
Community Heroes recognized in the “Dream Big, Do Good” contest:
- Wendy Songe, Tulsa, a musician who runs a “Mobile Outreach Music” program using cardboard box dulcimers and ukulele sing-alongs to enrich the lives of the elderly, the disabled, nursing home residents and veterans.
- Jenny Connell, Tulsa, a photographer who specializes in taking photos of children with special needs and runs a respite care event for special needs kids and their siblings to provide a break for the parents.
- Mark Meyer, Claremore, a firefighter who, after being diagnosed with cancer, began the nonprofit organization “Hydrants of Hope” to help kids fighting cancer.
- Master Sgt. Matthew Sims, Elgin, Oklahoma, a longtime combat medic in the U.S. Army who saved many lives despite his own wounds, also using his skills to save others in crisis at home.
