The University of Oklahoma Max Westheimer Airport will hold its 12th Annual Aviation Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13.
This year marks the 77th year of flight training at Max Westheimer Airport. Admission and parking are free.
A S.W.A.T. Team, the Norman Police Department and the NOAA Mobile Doppler Radar are scheduled to set up displays during the festival.
The festival will include an open house, aircraft static displays, tours of the air traffic control tower and a children’s activity area. This year’s aircraft static displays at the festival are the OU Fleet, an antique Stearman, and the T-6 Texans. The Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Oklahoma’s Army and Air National Guard, as well as radio control aircraft from the Central Oklahoma Radio Control Society, are scheduled to have displays. The Marine Corps will have a flight simulator running during the festival.
Sooner Flight Academy staff will host a children’s hangar area with hands-on activities and will be hosting fingerprinting by the OUPD. Sooner Flight Academy’s mascot, Sooney, will be on hand to greet children. Children will have the opportunity to sit in the front seat of a cockpit and play with the controls, take a ride on a bi-plane model and play in a model hot air balloon.
During the festival, the OU Sooner Schooner will be on hand, and will be pulled by the ponies Boomer and Sooner. Max Westheimer Airport is located at 1700 Lexington Ave., in Norman. For more information, call 405-325-7233.
