Tulsa County Clerk Michael Willis urges residents to avoid paying excessive fees for documents available at a low or no cost from the Tulsa County Clerk’s Office.

Several companies scattered throughout the country are sending notices to Tulsa County residents and property owners offering to provide them with a certified copy of their deed.  These companies charge excessive fees for documents that are provided by the County Clerk’s Office for around $2.

Some companies charge $86 for the same document.

“These companies are not doing anything illegal,” County Clerk Michael Willis said.  “But they do mislead people into paying a lot of money for something that we can provide very inexpensively.  The Tulsa County Clerk’s Office must charge fees set by statute for paper documents and certifications.  However, we routinely e-mail copies of documents to residents for no charge.”

Anyone with questions about documents such as deeds, mortgages, liens, or other instruments may call the Tulsa County Clerk’s Office at 918-596-5801 and select option three for land records or they may e-mail [email protected].
