Tulsa city councilors like to worship at the altar of political correctness.

The latest cause is an examination of the 2018 and 2018 “Equality Indicator” reports. According to these studies in 2018, black people were arrested twice as often as white people. And black people were arrested more often than Native Americans. Asians had the fewest arrests.

So, the answer is simple. Tulsa police need to arrest fewer black suspects and more whites, Indians and Asians. Oh, Tulsa police arrested women at a rate of 20.7 per 1,000 arrests – well above the national average of 7.7 per 1,000 arrests.

Again, the conclusion to the progressive is that we need to stop arresting so many women.

That’s ridiculous. The only concrete conclusion from these studies is that blacks commit more crimes and that women in Tulsa commit more crime than on a national level. Or, it may be that Tulsa police are more skilled at catching women who break the law.

Why do people commit crimes? That’s a complex question. Everyone operates on a unique set of circumstances.

If Tulsa police are harassing black citizens, that should be stopped. Programs to help repeat offenders – like the drug court at the Tulsa County Courthouse – have proved to be effective. Churches and para-church organizations play a role, especially in keeping repeat offenders from committing further crimes.

This problem is more moral than racial. Police work should be color-blind and based on the law, not on winds of politics.
