Beginning December 2, candidates can file for two seats on the Tulsa School Board that are up for re-election in February.

District 5 and District 6 expire in the spring.

Brian Hormer was appointed by the school board in February in District 5 after former board member Cindy Decker resigned. Hormer hasn’t announced whether he will run for a full term.

Board member Ruth Ann Fate is the longest serving member. She was first elected in District 6 in 1996 and she also has not declared whether she will run for another term.

The filing period is from 8 a.m. December 2 through 5 p.m. December 4. Candidates must have lived in their district for at least six months, have the equivalent of a high school diploma, not be related to another board member and not be an employee of TPS.

If more than one candidate files for a seat, the top two vote getters from the February vote will meet in a general election on April 2. If one candidate gets one more vote than 50 percent in February, they win the seat.
